Odd piece of pirate glass, blue on the outside (in bright light or daylight), amber on the inside, see listing for explanation FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE
Pirate glass macrame necklace with carnelian, ebony wood and little coconut shell beads. Threaded onto an adjustable length woven cotton cord.
‘But pirate glass is black’, I hear you cry! Well, yes, but believe it or not, this is normal black pirate glass. The outside has turned blue due to ‘glass sickness’ which is a process that changes the outside of the glass turning it blue, or sometimes irridescent. It happens when the glass changes at a chemical level due to age. So this is a piece of black glass, which looks blue in bright light, especially daylight, but which is amber when you shine a bright light through it? Weird!
The piece of pirate glass on this necklace is one and a quarter inches longt. It is secured in an intricate micro macrame setting knotted to my own design. Please see the second image for the glass with a bright light shining through it.
Pirate glass is seaglass which is many hundreds of years old and has slowly been worn into pleasingly smooth shapes by the sea. It usually appears black until you shine a bright light through it (the torch on a phone is best, as it is small and incredibly bright). It is hard stuff to find as on the beach it looks like a pebble. It takes a while to learn to spot it, but once you get your eye in you can find two or three pieces in one trip, if you know the right spots to look! I collect my pirate glass along the south coast of the Isle of Wight. It is time consuming, but a real thrill every time I find a piece.
This necklace is one of a kind and you will always be sent the one in the current pictures. All items come with free shipping unless specifically stated otherwise and are usually shipped in one to three business days using Royal Mail
Thank you for looking. Peace.
