Gorgeous piece of pirate glass which is a particularly nice shape with interesting impurities and a couple of bubbles. Threaded with eight large grey genuine freshwater pearls, garnet and black lava stone beads. Threaded onto strong cord with a sturdy lobster clasp.
The piece of pirate glass on this necklace is just over an inch long and is a nice greenish amber colour. It also has impurities and bubbles, which are characteristic of old, hand blown glass. The short necklace is eighteen is just seventeen inches long. Please see the second image for the glass with a bright light shining through it.
Pirate glass is sea glass which is many hundreds of years old and has slowly been worn into pleasingly smooth shapes by the sea. It appears black until you shine a bright light through it (the torch on a phone is best, as it is small and incredibly bright). It is hard to find as on the beach it looks like a pebble. It takes a while to learn to spot it, but once you get your eye in you can find two or three pieces in one trip, if you know the right spots to look! I collect my pirate glass along the south coast of the Isle of Wight. It is time consuming, but a real thrill every time I find a piece.
