This very cool fossil is an orthoceras, an ancient cephalopod creature (same family as modern squid, cuttlefish and nautilus). It lived around 370 million years ago and was similar to a nautilus, but with a straight shell. You can easily find images online of what they would have looked like.
I have turned this fossil into a beautiful macrame pendant on a tribal style necklace with black onyx, carved and dyed bone and hand cut African ostrich shell beads. The fossil is just under one and a half inches long and the necklace is eighteen inches long. The black onyx beads are 6mm.
