Dendritic opal is a form of common opal which has little fine branching patterns inside it. Also known as merlinite, this stone looks quite subtle until you shine a light through it and see the amazing patterns. It is definitely a favourite of mine. The piece of dendritic opal on this necklace is seven eighths of an inch long and is tightly secured in a micro macrame setting. The pendant is threaded with dendritic opal, wood and little dyed bone spacer beads and a sturdy lobster clasp.
This short necklace is eighteen inches long and the larger beads are 8mm. Please see the second picture for a close up of the patterns in the stone.
