Ironstone hagstone from the Isle of Wight. Fully beaded necklace threaded with dyed bone, wood and black lava stone beads and finished with a sturdy lobster clasp. This short necklace is just eighteen inches long and the hagstone is one and a quarter inches long.
These little amazing hagstones are one of my favourite things to find, but they come from a beach which is quite hard to get to, so I don’t go there very often. When I do I can easily spend hours looking, and usually come away with a few good specemins. Ironstone comes in some weird and wonderful shapes. It forms through concretion and can sometimes have multiple holes running through it in different directions. I am not sure ones like this form anywhere else in the world!
